If you’re from Northern Virginia (Fairfax, Culpeper, Warrenton, Manassas, etc.) you probably know someone who either vacations at Smith Mountain Lake or has an investment property. SML is hugely popular amongst NOVA residents. It’s an easy, scenic drive from the bumper to bumper traffic of the Washington D.C./Metro area. Smith Mountain Lake’s personality is casual and friendly from the moment you say hello. Everything feels familiar: the marinas, the restaurants, the neighborhoods. The sense of urgency that one feels when locked in the city immediately melts when the lake and the mountains come into view.
Aside from all of the poetic charm of the area, there’s another major draw for Northern Virginia residents: cost of living.
It’s no secret that living in a major city is expensive. That said, when visitors from NOVA and Washington D.C. travel to Smith Mountain Lake and realize that they can invest in a vacation property (or relocate altogether) for a fraction of what they’re spending back home, they can’t get down here fast enough.
As former residents of Fairfax, we can certainly relate! We were vacationing one summer and realized that Smith Mountain Lake was the perfect place for us. So, we relocated and have dedicated our careers to helping others find their dream home at Smith Mountain Lake.
If you live in Northern Virginia and haven’t visited Smith Mountain Lake, now’s a great time. And while you’re here, ask yourself if you could get used to lake life. You’ll know the answer before your toes touch the water.
